WHAT MAY PREVENT OR DELAY A CHEMICAL PEEL?

Your safety comes first. Chemical peel eligibility is determined based on the specific peel being considered, your skin's current condition, health history, medications, homecare routine, and recent treatments.

A chemical peel may need to be modified, postponed, or avoided if you have:

  • Active irritation, inflammation, open wounds, or compromised skin

  • Active cold sores or other skin infections in the treatment area

  • Recent sunburn or significant unprotected sun exposure

  • Certain medications or prescription skincare products

  • Recent waxing, electrolysis, laser, or other resurfacing treatments in the treatment area

  • Recent cosmetic procedures that require additional healing time

  • A history of abnormal wound healing or certain medical conditions

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding when the selected peel or ingredients are not appropriate

  • Any condition that may interfere with safe healing

This is not a complete list. Please disclose all medications, skincare products, recent procedures, allergies, health conditions, and changes to your skin before treatment.

BEFORE YOUR PEEL

Your personalized instructions may vary depending on the peel selected.

You may be instructed to temporarily discontinue certain retinoids, exfoliating acids, scrubs, benzoyl peroxide, or other potentially irritating products before treatment.

Avoid waxing, aggressive exfoliation, and other treatments in the area for the timeframe provided in your pre-care instructions.

Do not intentionally tan or arrive with sunburned, irritated, or compromised skin.

And most importantly: follow the personalized prep plan provided for your skin and selected peel.

AFTER YOUR PEEL

Following your treatment, your skin may experience temporary redness, tightness, dryness, sensitivity, flaking, or visible peeling, depending on the peel performed.

During the healing period:

  • Follow your provided homecare instructions

  • Do not pick, peel, scrub, or pull shedding skin

  • Avoid unnecessary heat and activities that significantly increase skin irritation as directed

  • Temporarily avoid exfoliating or irritating products until cleared

  • Keep the skin appropriately moisturized

  • Wear broad-spectrum SPF daily and limit unnecessary sun exposure

Visible peeling is not required for a chemical peel to be effective. Every client's skin responds differently.

IMPORTANT

Chemical peels are not one-size-fits-all. Your treatment, strength, preparation, and aftercare are selected according to your individual skin.

If your skin is not ready for the peel you originally had in mind, a different treatment or preparation period may be recommended first.

CHEMICAL PEELS

Correct. Resurface. Renew.

Chemical peels are professional resurfacing treatments designed to improve the appearance of hyperpigmentation, acne, congestion, uneven texture, dullness, fine lines, and other visible skin concerns.

At Zap Beauty Bar, chemical peels are approached intentionally and progressively. Rather than choosing an acid or strength yourself, your peel is selected based on your skin condition, goals, treatment history, homecare routine, tolerance, and overall readiness.

Some clients may require a period of professional homecare and skin preparation before beginning a corrective peel plan.

PREPARATION BEFORE CORRECTION

Healthy skin comes first.

Depending on the peel being performed and your individual skin, pre-treatment homecare or skin conditioning may be required before your appointment. Preparation recommendations are individualized rather than determined by Fitzpatrick type alone.

If your skin is not ready for a peel, we'll work on strengthening and preparing it first.

New to Zap? Your peel journey begins with your Virtual Consultation and Zap Skin Discovery Facial, where your skin and peel readiness will be assessed.
